The High Line Park

The High Line is a stretch of elevated railroad built in the 1930s to remove freight trains from the streets of Manhattan's industrial West Side. Unused since 1980, the line was initially supposed to be demolished. In 1999 a community group proposed that the structure be instead converted into a park.

The first stretch of the park was opened in June of this year. It runs through Chelsea, starting from Gansevoort street to 20th street. The second section, to be opened next year will go to 30th street. Check out the website
